Finally finished Platoon a couple days ago. It was difficult for me to keep track of everything that was happening. The film was dark, both literally and figuratively, and I could not, for the life of me, keep actors separate from each other except for Charlie ( Read more... )

Got around to finishing Titanic last week. It was surprisingly better than expected. Given the storyline I simply assumed that it would be a terribly sappy gross romance. I tend to hate romance by default; I can't stomach it and desperately want it to be more rom-com than straight up romance. Straight up romance makes me either depressed or just ( Read more... )

Finally managed to finish Schindler's List. Actually, by having gotten through the first disc, I made it through the most soul-crushing parts of the film. Everything on disc 2 was practically happy in comparison. Nothing really awful happens, and for that my nervous system thanks whoever decided to break the film up that way ( Read more... )

Hung out with Alex and his dad yesterday. Pizza and a movie! I had originally wanted to do an original Star Wars movies marathon, but we were delayed and by the time the first one was done I was pretty tired (and it was after 3PM). So Schindler's List turned out to be a bust because it's the most depressing thing ever. I made it through the first disc and can't quite get up the courage to put in the second. I don't particularly enjoy having my soul crushed. And I know it's cowardly of me and the only way that the world gets better is if we all face up to the awful, but I can' ( Read more... )

Finally got around to watching Lawrence of Arabia after years of owning it and having it sit quietly on my shelf. It's made very much in the style of old classics: dramatic music, long scenes and sweeping scenery, an epic plot, and an intermission ( Read more... )

Took me two nights but I managed to finish The African Queen late last night. I have to say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's a lively adventure romance with gorgeous scenery because it was actually filmed in Africa. I liked that there was enough excitement to keep me interested, but not so much that I was anxious the whole time ( Read more... )
